Owned and operated by Savoy Cinemas, the West End Cinema in Boston, Lincolnshire is a state-of-the-art multiplex. Open since March 2002, the West End has the highest quality technology and seating in every screen. The large foyer contains a cafe bar area, and a retail island with three sales points.
Savoy Cinemas decided to replace their existing Box Office system with Oscar in February 2007, in order to take advantage of new technology and sales channels. The first stage was the introduction of Chip and Pin card processing, to allow them to qualify for the most competitive Card Acquirer charges.
The second stage was the installation of Oscar Web for internet sales as Savoy Cinemas had found that the Savoy Cinema in Nottingham benefited greatly from its introduction.
The third and final stage of the installation was the addition of further Retail Sales Points, all of which have the facility to sell tickets. This has the twin advantages of maximising revenue during busy periods, and of reducing staffing costs during quiet periods.
The cost of installing Oscar was kept to a minimum by re-using existing hardware. Almost all of the existing hardware (including IBM SurePOS terminals, Windows 98 PCs, electronic cash drawers and pole-mounted customer displays) was used.
The Oscar software was also configured to drive the existing large LED film time display matrix in the foyer.
